For Madden 08 online wii edition can you use the Instant message feature?

The game let's you message a friend, but it only lets you choose from generic messages that it already has set. Can you connect a keyboard into the wii via a usb connection and can you actually type personal messages to other players whether actually in a game or not? I know it has a profanity filter but whats the point if you cant actually be profane? Thanks for any help!
