American Wife by Curtis Sittenfeld. Opinions?

I started this book for our book club yesterday, with many reservations. This is NOT the kind of book I would take a second look at in the bookstore! But I have to admit, I plowed through about 120 pages in a couple of hours and I'm almost enjoying the story. Was anyone else fooled by the chick lit aspect to find a really well written story? I'm not 100% sure I like the characters yet, but it's a long book... :)
